As part of the Social Fabric exhibition we are inviting community members to get involved in an exciting series of free collaborative making workshops at Art Space at Realm, hosted by special guest artists and artists from Nadrasca Studio. Artworks made at the workshops will become part of the Social Fabric exhibition!

Social Screen Printing Workshop

Date: Saturday 30 July
Time: 11am to 4pm
Facilitators: Christopher Doyle, Matt Feder and Nadrasca Studio Artists
Age Group: All ages (under 12s must be accompanied by an adult) 

Join Chris, Matt and Nadrasca Studio artists inside the Social Fabric exhibition to screen print a large scale collective artwork on fabric. Everyone involved in the workshop will learn how to screen print an image onto fabric and contribute to the making of the artwork.

The workshop will use the exhibition as source material to explore the creative and expressive possibilities of screen printing. Working with the stories behind the exhibits in the gallery participants will create a new unified artwork out the collective experience of all. The final piece will then be curated and displayed for the remaining duration of the exhibition.

First Impressions - Printmaking Workshop

Time: 11am to 4pm
Facilitators: Yoshe Gillespie and Nadrasca Studio Artists
Age Group: All ages (under 12s must be accompanied by an adult) 

Join Yoshe and Nadrasca Studio Artists for an active introduction to drypoint, monotype and monoprint processes and explore drawing and printing techniques within the setting of the Social Fabric exhibition at Art Space at Realm. 

Creative minds will connect in this workshop through shared use of a printing press to create a series of impressions on cotton rag paper. Techniques for drawing on Japanese drypoint and aluminium plates will be explored.

The art of adding colour to drypoint plates with the monotype process will also be explored and print etiquette will be introduced. Participants will have the opportunity to create a small edition of their own unique print with the intaglio method to record their ‘first impressions’ of these processes.

Soft Heads Mask Making Workshop

Time: 11am to 4pm
Facilitators: Christina Darras and Nadrasca Studio Artists  
Age Group: All ages (under 12s must be accompanied by an adult) 

Join Christina and Nadrasca Artists to paint and make your own calico ‘soft head mask’. Learn how to paint freely on this material, to create faces of your own design. Embroider, pattern and embellish your mask with objects. Accidents and experiments are welcomed in the creation of your own character!

Christina’s inspirations come from the circus, chance and the unpredictability of life. All ideas and approaches are encouraged. Participant’s masks will be hand or machine stitched to create their own unique end result.
