From September through to November the Arts Lounge will feature works by Narinda Cook and Karen Butler.
The Arts Lounge at Wyreena is an art space for artists to exhibit their work in a vibrant, accessible setting.
Narinda Cook
Narinda Cook is a Naarm/Melbourne based artist working with spatial practice, creating sculptures and site specific and performative installations.
Her work often responds to the body and architecture creating site-specific environments. Her use of children’s arts materials evoke nostalgia and memory whilst exploring play and time. Her current series Unearthly Delights questions the use of unsustainable materials and their contribution to the climate crisis.
Cook completed a Bachelor of Fine Art, Sculpture at VCA and has held solo exhibitions at Gertrude Contemporary, Bus Gallery, Westspace, Linden Contemporary, Incinerator Gallery and Trocadero Art Space. She has participated in group shows nationally and in New Zealand including at Heide Museum of Modern Art and Project Space at Deakin University. Her work is held in private collections nationally and internationally.
Karen Butler
Karen Butler is a creative practitioner living and working in Melbourne/Naarm with a practice that encompasses public art, painting and works on paper.
With over a decade of experience in art making she has a 2011 Masters of Art from RMIT and holds qualifications in Public Art and Visual Art. Karen is passionate about connecting with people, honouring the human experience and firmly believes that art and art-making have the capacity to enhance wellbeing and enrich our emotional world. She shares her knowledge and skills with children in Wyreena’s after school programs.
