A-Z of waste disposal

This guide provides a list of agencies and recycling centres to help with safe disposal of waste items and correct recycling procedures.

Charges may apply for some items; we recommend you contact the facility to confirm any costs before taking your items.

Baby items 

Donate your second-hand baby items to nearest charity store. Visit Recycling Near You store or Australian Opshop Listing for a list of charity stores in the Maroondah area.

Second hand nursery equipment, clothes and toys for babies and children to 16 years can be donated to St Kilda Mums. Visit the St Kilda Mums website for more information on how to drop off pre-loved items for donation and a list of acceptable items.

Bicycles for Humanity

Donate your bicycles to Bicycles for Humanity by dropping your bike off at: Bicycle Superstore - Nunawading, 315 Whitehorse Road, Nunawading, 3131.  

Council On Call Hard Waste Collection

Eligible residential households are entitled to a maximum of two collections per financial year. Maximum of 2 cubic meters of acceptable items taken per booking.

Uplift Project 

Uplift Project will take bras and crop tops in useable condition. To find a donation point, visit the Uplift Project website

Place in your garden organics bin, emptied every fortnight. You can put prunings and branches up to 10cm in diameter and 40cm in length, grass clippings, weeds and leaves in your garden organics bin. REDcycle soft plastic recycling program

  • You can take your old reusable shopping bags, as well as other soft plastic packaging, back to your local supermarket to be recycled as part of the REDcycle program. Visit REDcycle to see what plastic packaging is accepted, and use their locator to find your nearest participating supermarket.
