This guide provides a list of agencies and recycling centres to help with safe disposal of waste items and correct recycling procedures.

Charges may apply for some items; we recommend you contact the facility to confirm any costs before taking your items.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic some facilities may not be operating. Please contact the facility to find out if you’re allowed to visit the site under the current restrictions.

Shredded paper

Home compost or worm farm

Shredded paper is great for worm farms or compost systems.

Council fortnightly recycling service

Place in a box or paper bag and then place in to recycle bin. Please don’t put in loosely as it can get wrapped around machinery at the material recovery facility.

Council kerbside collection

Place in garbage bin, emptied every week.

Charity Stores

If still in good condition, donate to your local op shop. Find your nearest charity store.

Visit Shoes for planet earth to find your nearest donation point for sports shoes, which are in a good, clean and reusable condition.

Smoke Detectors (household)

Can now be disposed of in household garbage bins, according to the CFA.

Council kerbside collection

Place in garbage bin,emptied weekly.

REDcycle soft plastic recycling program

You can take your plastic shopping bags, as well as other soft plastic packaging, back to your local supermarket to be recycled as part of the REDcycle program.

Visit the REDcycle website to see what plastic packaging is accepted, and use their locator to find your nearest participating supermarket.

Detox Your Home Chemical Collection

There are 31 Detox your Home mobile collections held across Victoria each year. The program is administered by Sustainability Victoria in partnership with local councils and is funded by the Victorian landfill levy.

There are three nearby mobile chemical collection events which will be held every year at the following Detox your Home mobile locations:

Sporting equipment

Donate to a local op shop or charity shop (if in good condition).

Boots for all will accept a range of sports equipment and apparel that are in a good, reusable condition. Visit the Boots for all website to find your nearest donation point.

Find a drop off location or join a free Terracycle program and recycle all of your old pens, highlighters, markers and correction fluid pots.

Council On Call Hard Waste Collection Service

Eligible residential households are entitled to a maximum of two collections per financial year. Maximum of 2m³of acceptableitems taken per booking.
Book first before putting items onto the nature strip by contacting council on 1300 88 22 33 or visiting one of Council’s Customer Service Centres.

Syringes

Council drop off

Council offers local residents a free disposal service for used hypodermic needles and syringes. These items are designated as biologically hazardous and require safe disposal.
To use this service, call 1300 88 22 33 and ask for a Sharps container. When the container has been filled with used syringes and needles, bring it back for replacement.
