online-gaming-image

Join this Free information session to understand how the blurred line between gambling and gaming is placing young people at risk of harm. Discover the gambling-like tactics and features used by the designers of many popular online games played by young people and discover how parents and carers can help to keep them safe.

Delivered by EACH – Gamblers Help Eastern the one-hour session will cover:

  • how some video games expose young people to gambling
  • loot boxes, simulated gambling and microtransactions
  • signs of gaming addiction
  • how to keep young people safe.

The session is open to parents and carers of school students and young people and any other interested people.

Even though it is illegal for people under 18 to gamble, many online games played by young people either simulate gambling or have gambling-like features, such as loot boxes. In fact, 62% of the 82 best-selling video games feature loot boxes.

Be Ahead of the Game is a gambling awareness program for young people. It helps communities and parents understand how young people may be affected by gambling and mitigate the risks. The research-backed program is developed by the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation in partnership with Gambler’s Help community educators.
