Residential waste services & bin collection schedule

Maroondah City Council has three residential waste services:

General waste (green or red lid) collected weekly even on public holidays
Recycling (blue lid) collected every second week
FOGO (lime green lid) collected every second alternate week

There are also additional hard waste, electronic and household chemical collections.

Food and Garden Organics service (FOGO)

Read more about food and garden organics collections in Maroondah. FOGO is a kerbside collection service that allows food scraps to be added to garden waste bin so it can be recycled into top quality compost.

Weekly general waste collection

Find out what can go in your general waste bin. General waste bins should be on the kerb by 6am on the day of collection (or the night before), and removed within one day of collection.

Recyclables collection

Your blue lid recycling bin is used for the collection of recyclable containers and paper items.

Bin Inspection Program

Council conduct visual inspections of recycling and FOGO bins. Visual inspections of bins allows Council to provide households with feedback on their waste disposal behaviours and gather contamination data for targeted education campaigns.

Accessibility

Our Rubbish collections in Easy English webpage gives you information that is clear and easy to understand. It is designed for people that find it hard to read, because of a disability or when English is not their main language.

Braille bin stickers

Braille bin stickers are available to residents who are blind or have low vision to help identify:

General rubbish bin
Mixed recycling bin
Food and garden organics bin

The stickers measure 10cm x 2cm and can be stuck to the lid, the side or front of the bin.

Detox Your Home - Knox event

A free drop off event to dispose of unwanted, toxic household chemicals that cannot be placed in your normal waste bin.
