Overhanging branches

Garden trees and bushes with branches overhanging the footpath should be cut back to a height of 3m.

Low shrubs and other vegetation should also be kept cut back from footpaths so there is clear access for pedestrians.

Report branches on private property

If you see branches or vegetation overhanging or blocking a footpath from private property let us know by submitting a private tree customer request online, or contact Local Laws on 1300 88 22 33.

What happens next?

  1. Council’s Local Laws team will serve a Notice to Comply to the property owner requesting the branches be cut back within 14 days.
  2. If the notice is not complied with, Council will arrange for the pruning and the costs will be charged to the property owner.

Report branches on Council trees

If you are concerned about a council tree or vegetation submit a Council tree customer request online or contact Council on 1300 88 22 33, noting the location.

Council’s tree care team will then assess the vegetation and obtain permits if work is needed.
