Proposed Karralyka redevelopment.jpg

Council is undertaking a $10 million redevelopment of Karralyka to enhance and expand the existing facility.

Karralyka is a key regional arts facility, owned and managed by Maroondah City Council. The architecturally award-winning building was opened in April 1980 and offers facilities and services for live theatre, corporate events, social functions, wedding receptions, conventions and exhibitions.

The redevelopment will ensure the venue can continue to meet the needs and expectations of the community into the future.

The redevelopment includes:

  • a new entrance and upper foyer (complete)
  • new lower foyer
  • outdoor paved terraced area leading from the function rooms
  • accessibility improvements (partially complete)
  • an additional function room and a new video-conferencing board room, both of which will enable Karralyka to increase its offering for training and conference activity.

Completed works

  • Foyer extension works
  • Air handling and electrical services upgrade
  • Additional changeroom extension
  • Carpark and access path lighting improvements
  • Theatre seating and carpet replacement
  • Loading dock upgrade and generator installation
  • Accessibility improvements

Project funding

Council is advocating to the Victorian and Australian Governments for further funding towards the project.
