Work Experience
Are you in in Year 9 or 10 at Secondary School and need to complete Work Experience?
Council has two Work Experience programs for students who live and/or learn in the City of Maroondah. Please note, all placements are limited and are subject to availability and suitability.
- Explore Program
In the Explore Program you move through different areas of Council during your placement. You’ll experience a variety of roles, learn new skills, and see how different teams work together to make things happen. Typically you might spend time in four or five different teams across the week.
- Focus Program
In the Focus Program you choose an area that interests you most, and spend your placement working in that area. This option is ideal if you want to dive deeper into a particular field. To assist us in matching you appropriately, please outline in your application what type of work interests you most.

SWL helps you build practical skills, meet people in the industry, and see how what you learn in class works in the real world. Placements are usually offered one day per week across 10 weeks, although this will depend on availability.
Please note, all placements are limited and are subject to availability and suitability.
