Critical thinking & emotional intelligence (EQ) for small business

Running a small business means making decisions on the fly while dealing with customers, staff, and day-to-day pressures. This short workshop gives a practical look at how critical thinking and emotional intelligence can help in those moments.

This session, presented by Swinburne University of Technology, focuses on a small number of practical ideas that small business owners and supervisors can apply immediately.

You will examine how clearer thinking helps you work through problems and options, and how emotional intelligence influences communication, responses, and collaboration.

Using simple examples and discussion, the session touches on:

  • how assumptions shape the decisions we make
  • how emotions can influence outcomes (often without us noticing)
  • how thinking skills and people skills work together in real business situations.

This workshop suits business owners, supervisors, and emerging leaders who want a first look at these concepts without committing to a longer program.

You will leave with practical ideas, and a better sense of how these skills show up in everyday business conversations and decisions.

The session is intended to spark interest and awareness, and to help you decide whether you would like to explore these skills further through future training.
