Burning off permit application

Use this form to apply for a permit to burn off in Maroondah. Burning without a permit can lead to a fine of up to $2000.

Conditions of permit

If your permit is approved, you must follow these conditions.

At least 24 hours before the burn

  • notify your local fire brigade
  • notify your neighbours
  • report your burn day to Council

During the burn

  • complete the burn between 10am and 3pm on the approved date on your permit
  • make sure the material is dry
  • stay with the fire at all times
  • keep water available on site at all times

Step 1.Eligibility

You can apply for a permit if your property is more than 10,000 square metres (1 hectare).

A permit may be issued if all of the following apply:

  • there is no practical alternative to burning (cost is not considered)
  • the fire can be managed safely
  • the material to be burned does not include rubber, plastic, oil, paint, chemicals, food scraps or green waste that could cause a nuisance
  • the material to be burned is not from building or demolition works

Step 3.Submit application

A Local Laws Officer will inspect your property.

Step 5.Permit issued

If your application is approved, your permit will be issued within 10 days of the inspection.
