Energy efficiency and sustainability

Maroondah City Council advocates for energy efficient and sustainable design. This is design and construction that has minimal environmental impact, while also meeting the needs of the residents. 

Environmentally sustainable buildings: 

  • reduce a building’s environmental impact through energy and water efficiency methods
  • use sustainable materials and landscaping that support biodiversity and retain existing natural features.

6-star energy rating

From May 2011 all new homes must have a 6-star energy rating for the building envelope and a rain water tank for toilet flushing or a solar hot water system.

Rainwater tanks and grey water reuse

It is advisable to check your Title, Contract of Sale, and Council's Statutory Planning Team for any restrictions that may apply when considering a rainwater tank. Contact Council on 1300 88 22 33.
