Maroondah Access, Inclusion and Equity Advisory Committee

The Maroondah Access, Inclusion and Equity Advisory Committee provides advice to Council to inform activities on a range of issues relating to community access, inclusion and equity.

The Committee is one of four Council Advisory Committees that provide advice and input on social issues and support the work of Council in working towards the community vision outlined in Maroondah 2040: Our future together.

It operates in partnership with community, government and resident stakeholders on social issues, initiatives and services concerning (but not limited to): emergency relief, homelessness, cultural and linguistic diverse communities, Indigenous and reconciliation matters, LBGTIQ+ community, gender equity, hoarding and squalor, social inclusion, affordable housing and interfaith matters. 

Role of the committee

Maroondah Access, Inclusion and Equity Advisory Committee exists to:

  • Advance the social policy and community wellbeing related “Key Directions” within Maroondah 2040: Our Future Together.
  • Advise Council on the development, implementation and review of the Maroondah Liveability Wellbeing and Resilience Strategy 2021-2031, and associated action plans, social policies and related strategic documents.
  • To work towards building partnerships that enhance community wellbeing, promote liveability and address social harms.
  • To establish a collaborative partnership between Council and key community stakeholders.
  • To inform and advise Council on key policy issues relating to their portfolio.
  • To provide input into the development of strategy, policy, partnership activities and advocacy efforts in relation to community policy issues in Maroondah.
  • To act as the peak Council advisory governance body on access, inclusion and equity.

Members

The Committee consists of:

  • Three Councillors as appointed annually by Council
  • A minimum of eight representatives from local community service agency partners
  • A maximum of four community representatives. These appointments are made through an expression of interest process for a four-year term.

Expressions of Interest

We are seeking expressions of interest from people to join this advisory committee who:

  • Aged over 18 and currently live, or work or have knowledge relevant to the City of Maroondah;
  • Are proactively involved in local community organisations or groups that promote community wellbeing, liveability and/or social inclusion;
  • Are passionate about building a safe, healthy, active, inclusive, accessible, diverse, vibrant and culturally rich community in Maroondah;
  • Have significant knowledge and experience across a range of issues, topics and interests that are considered by these committees;
  • Are able to assist in identifying key challenges and future opportunities to enhance community health and wellbeing, liveability and social inclusion in Maroondah; and
  • Have well established relevant networks, affiliations and connection to the local community.

New members will join these committees for a two-year period, with potential for a further two-year extension. Members will participate in meetings 3-4 times per year and will also be expected to participate in and provide input to additional stakeholder engagement activities from time to time to support Council projects and services.

Meetings

Meetings are held 3-4 times each year and are conducted in accordance with meeting procedure principles as prescribed by Maroondah City Council.

As part of their responsibilities, committee members also provide input to stakeholder engagement activities to the support the strategic activities of Council.

Maroondah Liveability, Wellbeing and Resilience Strategy

A key role of this Committee is to advise and provide input to Council on the development, implementation and review of the Maroondah Liveability Wellbeing and Resilience Strategy 2021-2031, and associated action plans, social policies and related strategic documents.
