The Maroondah Environment Advisory Committee provides advice to Council and informs activities relating to the preparation, implementation and review of Councils Sustainability Strategy. These activities relate to both enhancing sustainability practices of Council as well as within the community.
In working towards implementation of the 2022-2031 Sustainability Strategy, the Committee provides advice and input across six outcome areas of:
- built environment
- climate change
- community connections
- green economy
- green infrastructure and governance
- evaluation and improvement.
The focus on the Committee is primarily on matters of strategic interest across the six outcome areas.

Members
The Committee consists of:
- Three councillors as appointed annually by Council.
- A minimum of eight community representatives. These appointments are made through an expression of interest process for a four-year term.
- Council officers to provide administrative support and technical advice.
Expressions of Interest
We are seeking expressions of interest from people to join this advisory committee who:
- Currently live or work or have knowledge relevant to Maroondah.
- Are proactively involved in local community organisations or groups that promote sustainability.
- Have significant knowledge and experience of at least one of the Sustainability Strategy outcome areas.
- Can assist in identifying key challenges and future opportunities to enhance the sustainability of Council and the Maroondah community; and
- Have well established relevant networks, affiliations and connection to the local community.
New members will join the committee for a two-year period, with potential for a further two-year extension. Members will participate in meetings 3-4 times per year and will also be expected to participate in and provide input to additional stakeholder engagement activities from time to time to support Council projects and services.

Meetings
Meetings are held 3-4 times each year and are conducted in accordance with meeting procedure principles as prescribed by Maroondah City Council. The remaining meetings in 2023 are scheduled for the Tuesday evenings of the 13th June, 15th August, 17th October between 6.45pm and 8.30pm. As and when required, additional meetings or workshops may be convened for Committee members to discuss matters of business in more detail.
As part of their responsibilities, committee members also provide input to stakeholder engagement activities to the support the strategic activities of Council.
