Council arborists have assessed the trees along Kardinia Crescent as part of the design process. Two trees have been identified as dangerous and require removal.
A large Yellow Box Gum in the Warranwood Reserve opposite 25 Kardinia Crescent has been identified as dangerous and will be removed. This tree is leaning over the powerlines, and the root plate has gradually been losing stability. Upon its removal, Council will also remove several of the stumps surrounding this tree and seek to replant within the adjacent area within Warranwood Reserve.
A Swamp Gum has also been identified for removal in front of 30A Kardinia Crescent. This tree has severe fruiting fungus in the main trunk and is in severe decline. It has been identified as a high-risk tree and is to be removed. Upon the completion of the project, street tree replanting opportunities will be reviewed by Council’s Tree Management Team.
To facilitate the construction project, Council’s arborists have identified ten juvenile trees and one dead tree will be removed due to their location within the construction zone. This includes:
- Five trees at the Warranwood Road intersection (one black wood and four wattles) for road widening.
- A dead tree in front of 15 Kardinia Crescent for footpath construction.
- Two trees at the bend near 19 Kardinia Crescent impacted by road widening.
- Three trees in front of 34 Kardinia Crescent, along with weed and vegetation clearing.
Council will review street tree replanting opportunities at the completion of the construction. All new planting will be scheduled for the next tree planting season (May to September 2026).
