Developmental checks for children up to four years are in accordance with the Victorian Government Maternal & Child Health Framework.

Key age and stage assessments

Step 1.Home visit

When you return home after the birth of your child/ren a Maternal and Child Health Nurse will contact you to arrange a home visit.

Your Maternal and Child Health Nurse will review your child's health, growth and development. The nurse will also talk to you about your own health and how your experience as a parent of a new baby has been so far.

Step 2.Regular appointments

Your child will need regular appointments over the next 3.5 years with your Maternal Child Health Nurse.

Reschedule if unwell

Maternal Child Health services are for well babies and children.

Please do not attend our service if you or your child are unwell with any of the following symptoms:

  • Fever, chills or sweats
  • Cough or sore throat
  • Shortness of breath
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Loss/change in sense of smell or taste
  • Headache, muscle/body aches
  • Nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea.

What to bring to your appointment

  • Child Health Record Book (green book)
  • Change of clothes
  • Nappies and baby wipes
  • Change mat or cloth nappy
  • Plastic bag (for dirty nappies)
  • Spare dummy/comfort toy
