Council has received Victorian Government funding through the Safe Local Roads and Streets program to construct an off-road bicycle path along Bedford Road between Warrandyte Road and Rosewarne Lane in Ringwood.

The construction of this path will provide an off-road cycling connection to the Ringwood Metropolitan Activity Centre (RMAC), nearby schools and other significant cycling paths.

Works are underway and are due to be completed by the end of the 2026 calendar year.

About the project

The key elements of the project include:

Removal of the existing substandard on-road bicycle lanes.
Construction of an off-road bicycle path matching the existing shared paths at Warrandyte Road (western end) and Pitt Street (eastern end).
Reallocation of the available road space to support the off-road bicycle path.
A raised pedestrian/cyclist priority crossing at the Pitt Street intersection.
Bus stop relocation from outside 11 Bedford Road to outside 13-15 Bedford Road.
Alterations to the Warrandyte Road and Bedford Road traffic signals to incorporate a shared path crossing, both east-west and north-south.
Construction of nine indented parking bays on the south side of the road.
Construction of sections of indented carparking on the north side of the road.
Kerb and channel, vehicle crossing and footpath reconstruction on the north side of the road.
Tree removal where safety necessitates.
Landscaping, including planting of canopy trees, where feasible.
Associated signage and line-marking.

Bedford and Warrandyte Road works (school holidays)

The final stages of construction involve works at the intersection of Bedford Road and Warrandyte Road, as well as traffic signal modification and street lighting upgrades.

Stage 1 of the works will involve road crossing excavations. These works are planned to be undertaken at night, during the week of 13 September 2026, with working hours of 7pm to 5am, from Sunday to Thursday. These must be completed as night works to reduce impact on the intersection.

Stage 2 includes the remaining traffic signal and concreting works at the intersection. These will be undertaken during a construction blitz within the September school holidays, from 21 September to 2 October 2026, with working hours of 7am to 5pm.

For both stages, the works will be completed under traffic control arrangements including partial road closures, local detours and modified intersection arrangements to create safe working zones and retain bus movements.
