As part of Council’s 24/25 Open Space Capital Improvement program, Council has completed enhancement works at Norwood Reserve. This includes the renewal of ageing assets, enhancing the natural features of the reserve, and creating a more accessible space for all users.

The draft enhancement plans for Norwood Reserve were endorsed by Council in March 2023. You can view the enhancement plan and read more on Council’s Your Say webpage.

The enhancement plans were developed based on feedback from key stakeholders and members of the community, to help ensure Norwood Reserve meets the needs of our community now and into the future.

The completed works include:

  • Flexible open space,
  • Re-vegetation of the reserve including planting canopy trees, understorey (shrubs and bushes) and avenue trees,
  • Nature play elements,
  • Seating areas,
  • Loop walking trail,
  • Landscaping works.

Further planting will take place in the 2026 planting season.

Trees and vegetation

Planting of smaller bushes and shrubs will commence in 2026, more information on timing will be provided soon.

Tree planting and revegetation works at the front of the reserve were completed in early 2025.

A single avenue planting of Eucalyptus melliodora (Yellow Box) was chosen to line the Warrandyte Road boundary. These trees will be interplanted with Allocasuarina littoralis (Black) and Acacia implexa (Lightwood). These tree species are indigenous to the area and will provide a native food source and habitat for birds and wildlife, including the local Black Cockatoo population.
