The Artistic Magnitude of Mullum Mullum
Aunty Irene Norman, Uncle Jack Charles, Acrylic on Canvas
The exhibition presents art down through the ages, from the Ancestors to modern times-from soft weaving used for gathering and serving food to furs used for warmth, bedding, carrying babies and children as well as for shelter.
Tools used for daily life and weapons used for hunting are shared, alongside photography and Indigenous items produced with contemporary methods.
The Mullum Mullum Indigenous Community includes a variety of talented artists with works ranging from paintings and drawings to burning and carving.
MMIGP has an Arts Collective and Arts and Crafts activities. Some other Groups are the; Youth Group, Mens’ Group and Womens’ Yarning Circle.
Many of the Community’s Artists have exhibited in galleries including 69 Smith Street, Koorie Heritage Trust and Maroondah Federation Estate Gallery.
Some Artists have also been involved in painting murals within the Maroondah area, including Eastland, Croydon, Ringwood East and many of the local schools within the eastern metropolitan region.
We are blessed to have such fabulous 'artistic magnitude' and creativity from our local community highlighting the deep connection to our culture – which has never been lost.
