Projects

From our Elders

From our Elders is a video installation created by Narungga/Kaurna and Trawoolwaway multimedia artist Daen Sansbury-Smith and his production company Blak Crow.

Daen was awarded the Fellowship for Indigenous Leadership in Victoria in recognition for his commitment to cultural preservation and continuation through modern technology and multimedia art productions. In From our Elders, Daen has created a video installation from a series of interviews with Elders from Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia, including five Elders from Ringwood’s Mullum Mullum Indigenous Gathering Place (MMIGP). The installation includes video footage of the Country where the Elders are from and cultural displays of tools and weaving presented by MMIGP.

With thanks to all the Elders who participated in the project:

Uncle Bill Nicholson (Wurundjeri), Aunty Zeta Thomson (Wurundjeri/Yorta Yorta), Uncle David Farrall (Arrernte), Aunty Janet Turpie-Johnstone (Gunditjamara), Aunty Daphne Milward (Yorta Yorta), Aunty Irene Norman (Wailwan), Uncle Kutcha Edwards (Mutti Mutti), Aunty Antoinette Smith (Palawa), Uncle Michael Wanganeen (Narungga)
