Batteries (household*)

Batteries cannot be disposed of in any bin. Please see below for safe disposal options for batteries. 

*The following household batteries are accepted: any brand of AA, AAA, C, D and 9V batteries (both rechargeable and non-rechargeable).

When you remove old batteries from your device, tape each end of the batteries using clear sticky tape. This prevents sparking and reduces the risk of fire. Button batteries should be taped on all sides.

Council Customer Service Centres

You can drop off batteries for recycling to Council's Customer Service Centres:

  • Croydon Customer Service Centre, Croydon Library, Civic Square, Croydon 
  • Realm, 179 Maroondah Hwy, Ringwood

  • To find your nearest Bunnings store, visit the Bunnings website
  • Bunnings stores also accept larger rechargeable batteries such as those from power tools and cameras (maximum 5kg per battery)

  • To find your nearest Coles store, visit the Coles website
  • Coles stores also accept larger rechargeable batteries such as those from power tools and cameras (maximum 5kg per battery)
