Electronic waste (E-waste)

E-waste – or electronic waste – refers to unwanted and discarded electrical and electronic products – essentially anything powered by batteries or an electrical cord and plug.

E-waste is growing 3 times faster than any other waste stream. E-waste contains potentially hazardous and valuable materials, which don‘t belong in landfill.

To help protect our environment and recover more precious resources, the Victorian Government has banned all e-waste from landfill as of 1 July 2019.

Visit the Sustainability Victoria website to learn more about the e-waste ban and recycling your e-waste.

How to recycle e-waste

E-waste doesn’t belong in any bin. Before gifting, selling or recycling e-waste, it’s essential to wipe all data and perform a factory reset to protect your personal information.

See the how Council can help you to dispose of your e-waste below.

E-waste collection event

Council holds an e-waste collection event in May and October each year. Disposal of e-waste is free for Maroondah residents.
