Meet the panellists

Jenna Flood

Jenna, also known as Ironic Minimalist is a passionate slow fashion advocate dedicated to helping people understand the issues surrounding fast fashion. She advocates for sustainable alternatives, such as pre-loved, vintage, and clothing made with sustainable practices. Jenna believes in slowing down clothing consumption by curating slow wardrobes and making long-term investments in clothing rather than following short-lived trends. She envisions a future where more people participate in the sharing economy by renting, swapping or borrowing.

Jenna has long worked in the retail space and has seen how clothing trends have changed over time. She has long been interested in the world of preloved fashion, not just for its lower environmental footprint, but for its ability to allow many generations to experiment with their style. Jenna is also the Melbourne host of The Clothing Exchange, a professionally hosted pop-up service around Melbourne that enables attendees to swap their garments seamlessly.

Julia English

Julia English is a PhD candidate at RMIT, researching local sustainable fashion practices. As part of her work, she teaches as part of the School of Fashion and Textiles at RMIT and shares her repair knowledge through the RMIT repair café, and mending workshops with local councils. She is an advocate of sharing knowledge, and has produced a podcast, Seam Change, profiling local Melbourne remakers to help build awareness about these practices.

Katrina Naish

Katrina Naish is the founder of A Fitting Connection, a social enterprise committed to reducing textile waste through education, upcycling, and community engagement. With over 20 years of experience in the fashion and textile industry, Katrina has transitioned from design and production to developing innovative, hands-on programs that empower students, communities, and organisations to rethink the value of clothing and textiles.

She also runs The Creative Community Space and The Fabric ReStore—home to a fabric and sewing supplies recovery centre. This unique operation not only returns unused textiles and supplies back into circulation but is a great example of a business designed to model circular economy principles. As part of this event, Katrina will be running a pop-up shop of The Fabric ReStore. Katrina brings lived experience, industry insight, and a passionate commitment to creating a more sustainable fashion future.

Buy Nothing New Month

Buy Nothing New Month has been promoting conscious consumption since 2010 by encouraging people to rethink their buying habits, for the month of October. This 31 day challenge encourages us to think about where our stuff comes from and where it goes when we are done, and to explore eco-friendly alternatives like buying second-hand, borrowing, or renting when we need something 'new.'

For more information visit the Buy Nothing New website.
