The City Nature Challenge is an annual global citizen science event coordinated by the California Academy of Sciences and the Los Angeles County Natural History Museum, that was first run in 2016. Cities around the world collaborate to share observations of nature over a four-day challenge period.
Come explore, discover and learn about the rich biodiversity that Maroondah is home to.
To take part in the City Nature Challenge, simply use iNaturalist to record observations in your backyard, your street, your local park or creek anytime during the four days of the challenge. Better still, download iNaturalist beforehand, and get familiar with using it so that when the City Nature Challenge begins, you are ready to go!
Maroondah City Council will host nature discovery activities during the four days of the City Nature Challenge. Details to come.
The City Nature Challenge has grown and was divided into two umbrella projects in 2024 to fit all of the participating cities.
The results for Maroondah and Greater Melbourne were recorded as part of the Eurasia, Africa and Oceania umbrella project.
