Fire danger period
Burning off is not allowed during the fire danger period unless permitted by CFA.
The fire danger period is declared based on local conditions such as rainfall and how dry the vegetation is. It is different from a Total Fire Ban day.
During this time, fire restrictions are in place to help prevent fires from starting and spreading.
Open air burning is controlled by the Country Fire Authority Act 1958 and enforced by Victoria Police during the fire danger period. If you see illegal burning during this time, call Triple Zero (000).
For more information on the fire danger period, including which fires are allowed and which activities are prohibited, visit the CFA website.
Report illegal or unsafe burning
