This guide provides a list of agencies and recycling centres to help with safe disposal of waste items and correct recycling procedures.

Charges may apply for some items; we recommend you contact the facility to confirm any costs before taking your items.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic some facilities may not be operating. Please contact the facility to find out if you’re allowed to visit the site under the current restrictions.

Detox your Home Chemical Collection

There are a number of Detox your Home mobile collections held across Victoria each year.

Council On Call Hard Waste Collection

  • Eligible residential households are entitled to a maximum of two collections per financial year. Maximum of 2 cubic metres of acceptable items taken per booking
  • To arrange collection book online now, phone 1300 88 22 33 or visit one of Council’s Customer Service Centres

If you are unable to compost your food waste at home, go to Share Waste to find a local community garden or community member who will take your food scraps for composting.

Asbestos Analysis

Charges may apply 

 

For asbestos analysis, contact :

  • Worksafe Victoria on 9641 1555 for advice
  • The National Association of Testing on 9329 1633 and they will refer you to someone in your area (if available). 

Asbestos Removal

Asbestos handling

Seek professional advice prior to handling.

Keep damp and wrap in two layers of heavy duty black plastic sheeting taped down with duct tape.

While Council has provided these brief guidelines on the handling of asbestos, we recommend that any material thought to contain asbestos be removed, handled and disposed of by a licensed asbestos removal contractor in accordance with Worksafe Victoria’s Guidelines.
