I would like to thank the Maroondah community for taking the time to provide their feedback on the draft Maroondah Affordable and Social Housing Policy 2018.

As Council’s representative on the Eastern Affordable Housing Committee, I know how important it is for Council to develop a policy that represents the community as well as catering for our future needs.

Currently, 1 in 10 households in Maroondah needs help to avoid serious or severe housing stress and there are more than 4000 households requiring significant housing assistance.

Background research into the policy also found only about 2.5% of all dwellings in the municipality was classified as affordable housing, but to meet the needs of our community this would need to increase to about 10% of all dwellings.

We are currently reviewing the feedback with the intention of having a final Policy ready for adoption later this year.
