Waste & rubbish

Your garbage is collected weekly from the nature strip, with recyclables or garden organics collected on alternate weeks (that is, every 2 weeks). There are also additional hard waste and household chemical collections.

Your weekly garbage will still be collected on a public holiday, even Christmas Day!

You might see red lid garbage bins in Maroondah from November 2021. That’s because we’re changing our garbage bin lids from green to red over the next ten years to align them with Australian Standards and so they meet the requirements of the Victorian Government’s Recycling Victoria policy.

On call hard rubbish and bundled prunings collection
Two hard waste collections are available each financial year to residents who pay the residential bin charge.
Weekly rubbish collection
Find out your next collection date online. Bins should be on the kerb by 6am on the day of collection (or the night before), and removed within one day of collection.
Recyclables collection
Your blue lid recycling bin is used for the collection of recyclable containers and paper items.

Electronic waste collection (E-waste)
The Victorian Government banned e-waste from going to landfill on 1 July 2019. Council holds several e-waste collection events a year.

You can dispose of unwanted household chemicals for free at local events or permanent drop-off sites. The collected items are recycled and do not go to landfill

Waste collection services are available for both commercial and industrial businesses located in Maroondah.

We offer a range of free waste education workshops and presentations.
