Did you know we can all help combat climate change in our own gardens?

International Compost Awareness Week is from Sunday 5 May to Saturday 11 May. Championing the week is ambassador, chief composter and Gardening Australia host Costa Georgiadis.

International Compost Awareness Week is the perfect time to make the most of our garden space and put food waste to good use at home.

By composting at home, we can create a valuable organic resource we can use ourselves while helping our environment at the same time.

The benefits of composting

Not only can composting help to combat climate change, you and your garden can reap the benefits of compost. Benefits that Costa himself champions include:

  • creating a rich fertiliser for your garden
  • improving the yield of your home-grown fruit and vegetables
  • adding important minerals, nutrients, bacteria, and micro-organisms back into your soil
  • increasing the water retention of your soil
  • getting you out in the garden, noticing nature more.
