Maroondah Planning Scheme Review endorsed

Council has endorsed a range of recommendations following a review of the Maroondah Planning Scheme.
Mayor of Maroondah, Councillor Kylie Spears, said some of these recommendations are proposed to form new Amendments to the Maroondah Planning Scheme.
“Council is pleased to endorse the Maroondah Planning Scheme Review.
“The review made a total of 219 recommendations, including a number of amendments that should be made to the Maroondah Planning Scheme. These range from minor administrative changes to updates on planning policy and altered zone and overlay provisions, with the changes proposed to form two new Maroondah Planning Scheme amendments, Amendments C153maro and C155maro,” Cr Spears said.
“We look forward to working with the Minister for Planning and our community to implement important changes.”
The Maroondah Planning Scheme is a key strategic document that supports many of the future outcomes sought by the Council Plan. It is reviewed regularly to ensure it continues to align with the Council Plan and relevant regulations.
The recent review recommends a range of changes to the Maroondah Planning Scheme, along with future strategic work, advocacy and process improvement actions.
Recurring themes in these actions include:
- Setting the vision, to ensure planning reflects Council’s strategic directions and policies
- Planning for local places, to support activity and employment centres
- Ensuring heritage assets are identified and protected
- Planning for the environment and environmental risks
- Planning for the residential framework
- Planning for current and future transport needs.
Next steps
Council will provide the Minister for Planning with a copy of the Maroondah Planning Scheme Review and then prepare the two proposed planning scheme amendments, Amendment C153maro and Amendment C155maro, with community consultation to follow.
