Whale carabiners made from recycled plastics by Precious Plastics Monash. 

See a display of sculptures made of recycled plastic by students from Croydon Hills Primary School showcased in the Collectors Cabinets on the Ground Floor at Realm. The sculptures were created by the students following a workshop with artist Carolyn Cardinet.  

A display of objects made by Precious Plastics Monash will be showcased in the Collectors Cabinets of Level 1. Precious Plastics Monash is a student-driven initiative dedicated to pioneering sustainable initiatives. Part of the global Precious Plastic movement, they are committed to turning discarded plastic materials into valuable resources, while promoting sustainability and environmental awareness. They aim to foster a circular economy where plastic waste is transformed into useful products, empowering individuals to actively contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable future. 

The Collectors Cabinets are on display in association with Peak Plastique, a sound and video installation in ArtSpace at Realm as well as a series of workshops and activities exploring the problem of plastic. 

Opening event

The displays will be launched at an exciting opening event with a live performance by musicians Erik Griswold, Anna McMichael and Vanessa Tomlinsonwith Monash University students from the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music. Each piece explores a musical textural world of its own, being inspired by a specific synthetic or natural element, ranging from polypropylene and PVC to seaweed packaging. The music evokes both a fascination for plastic and a deep sense of precarity.  

Everyone is also welcome to come to an informal artist talk before the launch during a special Maroondah Arts Collective gathering.

Getting here

The Realm building is in Ringwood Town Square and has a white diamond facade.

  • Parking available at Eastland Shopping Centre. When arriving via Ringwood Bypass, enter from Ringwood Street at West 5. If you arrive from Warrandyte Road, use entry East 6. Parking is free for the first 3 hours.
  • Public transport
    Realm is across the road from Ringwood Train Station
