Jay Young, A Path of Awakening

Images: Jay Young, A Path of Awakening, watercolour | Jan Liesfield, Dunlins - Flow Country, lino print

During November through to December, Wyreena’s Arts Lounge will feature it’s final exhibitions for the year, from artists Jay Young and Jan Liesfield.

Using different mediums, both artists explore the beauty of detail in their sweeping landscapes. Young’s watercolours tell shared stories of the Australian countryside and the gates that are found throughout them; while Liesfield transforms the vistas of places she has travelled into intricate lino prints.

About the artists

Jay Young

Gates Through The Countryside

A collection of Australian countryside landscapes in watercolour. Honouring the charm of old gates and slow living.

Across the Australian countryside, old gates stand weathered and enduring — quiet witnesses to changing seasons and the stories of the land.

Gates Through the Countryside is a collection of tranquil watercolour landscapes inspired by these humble landmarks. Each painting reflects the slower rhythm of rural life — misty mornings, open paddocks, and the gentle beauty of spaces left untouched.

In Jay Young’s signature calm and atmospheric style, this body of work celebrates the art of slow living and the timeless charm of rural Australia — inviting viewers to pause along the path and rest a moment by an old gate.

Jan Liesfield

Place

Jan Liesfield enjoys visiting new places, and finds inspiration for her artwork within them.

Place is a collection of lino prints featuring views of Oatlands Tasmania, with its convict-built sandstone homes; as well as the magic of Scotland. From Flow Country in the north and the quaint villages of Orkney, to the sights of Edinburgh Castle and the stunning Botanical Gardens. Each lino print is a memory of place.

Jan’s works feature intricate mark making, creating form and texture within her images which are typically printed by hand with a wooden spoon. Her hope is that this exhibition provides the viewer with a little moment in time portraying the beauty and individuality of each ‘Place’.
