“This is where our heart is. This is where our spirit lives. This is Spirit Land. Marrup Biik” Simone Thomson

An extraordinary video and sound installation created by local Wurundjeri/Yorta Yorta artist Simone Thomson and immersive experience artist Tom Hall from PixALL. Marrup Biik – Spirit Land, travels through a spiritual map of Maroondah exploring Country, Culture and traditional stories.

Experience a powerful reimagining and animation of a significant artwork from Maroondah City Council’s art collection. A soundscape developed by the artist in collaboration with facilitator Sarah Weston reveals the artist’s voice as the narrator of a Dreaming story. As the soundscape moves across the landscape, the artist’s mother, respected Wurundjeri and Yorta Yorta Elder Aunty Zeta Thomson can be heard singing and her brother, local artist Mark Thomson can be heard playing didgeridoo.

The project will open during Reconciliation Week and will be on display until the end of NAIDOC Week.
