The Arts Lounge at Wyreena is an art space for artists to exhibit their work in a vibrant, accessible setting.

About the artists

Karen Neal

"As a resident of Croydon North for over 30 years I enjoy living on the urban fringe. I walk through my local reserves most days and am grateful that, although much bushland has been lost, these reserves have been retained.

My interest and love for nature, in particular birds and plants, stems from early childhood memories of walking in the bush or looking at plants in the garden and spotting the insect and birdlife in the area.

I predominantly work with Linocuts but may also use monoprints, collagraphs ecoprints or watercolour in layered combinations. Found foliage and foliage from my garden are used to create ecoprints and foliage and feathers are amongst the materials used for creating monoprints.

Printmaking enables me to experiment with images in a variety of ways and this includes the making of sculptural books from my prints.

Nature Walk will incorporate a selection of prints, mixed media works and artist books that engage the viewer with my interpretation of what we can see in our local area if we just look."

Joan Segrave

"The inspiration for the Ausscapes series came from my enjoyment exploring the impact of colour and shape in the Australian landscape as it invites both rhythm and juxtaposition reflecting life’s experiences. I enjoy painting with acrylics using a palette that highlights and exaggerates the often subtle colours in our landscape. I enjoy using both brush and palette knife.

During my career as a psychologist I developed a strong interest in non-verbal approaches to wellbeing. This led to the development of the practice of mindfulness during extended walking in the Australian outback, the influence of which have found their way into my paintings."
