The Arts Lounge at Wyreena is an art space for artists to exhibit their work in a vibrant, accessible setting.

About the artists

Kristin McFarlane

Kristin’s practise as a glass artist focusses on incorporating imagery and botanical elements using various printing techniques. She combines sheet glass with delicate materials like botanical specimens and silver leaf to create multi-layered pieces with intricate interiors that explore themes of memory, fragility, and strength.

Kristin’s work delves into the concept of layering through different mediums, merging elements to create evocative pieces that tell visual stories through images and text. By integrating fragments of letters, text, photographs, and images, she crafts time capsules that capture and preserve memories. When these elements are fused within glass, the material’s fragile nature transforms these sentiments into time capsules that reflect the delicate balance of life, relationships, and memory.

Lisa Higgs

The artwork in this exhibition is a merging of all Lisa’s interests. A love of old and nostalgic items started when she inherited old Carlton Ware items from her grandma. “I can remember they were always on display at her house, and I was thrilled to own them.” Lisa has merged this growing collection and with the use of vibrant colour has tried to share and invoke memories for the observer.

A Florist by profession, Lisa loves flowers of all kinds. “I love the texture, the vibrant colour and of course the perfume. They make me happy. Flowers also are my pleasure to paint. I can capture a bloom and keep it for eternity.” Lisa’s love for painting began as a teenager when she began in oil paint and went on to discover soft pastels. For this collection, Lisa has enjoyed the vibrancy of acrylic paint.

Jennifer Keogh

During the past four years, Jenny has been concentrating on a body of work that allows her to combine both a love of fabric and textile art, with a love of all traditional mediums. This exhibition “LAYERS” is the result of that work.

The inspiration for Jenny’s compositions came to light after revisiting previous sketches and paintings. “Looking back over time I found that the common thread that links my lifelong love of working with fabric or paint, was not so much the art itself but the joy in the process of creating with different mediums.” In these works, Jenny explores themes relating to the passage of time, the layers that form identity and the links between the organic and manmade.
