About the artists

Liezel Van Der Linde

Liezel Van Der Linde returned to fine arts after a few years break and also returned to tutoring at Wyreena where she, once again, become deeply immersed in watercolours.

Over the last couple of years as she’s progressed from an immigrant to an Australian citizen. Melbourne's multicultural essence has profoundly influenced her identity and art.

Her exhibition at Wyreena explores the city's impact on her life and how it has become a home to her heart. The city’s spaces, sounds and sights have become a part of her foundation as she believes it has for so many others.

Thorwald Philipp

Thorwald Philipp was born in 1942 and raised in Innsbruck, the state capital of the Tirol in Austria in 1942. He travelled through Europe and later worked in air traffic control before migrating to Australia in 1977 where he raised his family in Melbourne.

Thorwald Philipp practices analogue photography, a process that has existed for nearly 200 years. Its results are lasting, and Philipp has a private collection of photos from 1856.

Philipp believes analogue photography has an image quality that digital photography cannot produce. His work is handmade with traditional materials that gives archival permanence using genuine baryta paper and chemicals.
