The Arts Lounge at Wyreena is an art space for artists to exhibit their work in a vibrant, accessible setting.

About the artists

Natalie Wijeyeratne

Natalie Wijeyeratne is an emerging artist based in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

Her recent artistic endeavours have been heavily influenced by nature, the seasons, and the elements. "I was inspired to create a series that inquires into the contrasts, overlaps, and spaces between the natural and synthetic realms, both in the physical world and the places within." This exploration is expressed in Natalie's choice of tones and palette, which encompasses soft hues, vibrant eccentric colours, and delicate strokes intertwined with organic mark-making.

Natalie is currently working from Studio 13 at Burrinja Cultural Centre (Aerie Ecology Network). "On Nature" is her fourth solo exhibition.

Denise Bond

Spirituality expressed in art has kindled Denise Bond’s interest in iconography.  For over a decade Denise has attended the Uniting Church Icon School which offers an appreciation for the historical background of icon painting and the different cultures which have rendered these sacred images.

The icons in this exhibition show a range of styles, mainly from Byzantium, and also some more recent icons from various cultures such as the 20th century Ethiopian Madonna and 21st century Korean surrealism.

Icons have been described as a ‘window to God’ – they portray a range of biblical stories and subjects, saintly persons, and angels. Making an icon is known as ‘writing’ an icon which differentiates it from the painting traditions of Western art.

Denise also paints portraits and landscapes in oils (realist and post realist) as well as contemporary tempera works on paper.
