Golden Offerings, Aeroplane Jelly and a Dragon's Tale is an expansive collaborative exhibition that explores Asian-Australian identity through shared narrative and material transformation. The artists rework archival imagery, found textiles and everyday objects, drawing on customs like Peranakan beading and traditional Javanese carvings to create a living dialogue between past and present.

Set against the familiar backdrop of the suburban landscape, the exhibition examines ancestor worship, family customs and reimagined offerings as they are woven into daily life. It delves into the intersection of heritage and contemporary diaspora experience, offering personal reflections on belonging.

While family, duty, food and reverence for ancestors remain central pillars for migrant communities, these expressions are subtly adapted and reframed within an Australian context.

About the artists

This project is presented by artists Karima Baadilla, Pia Johnson and Janelle Low. The three artists make up The Curry Puff Pals, a collective founded on a shared love of food, conversation and art. With transcultural Asian diaspora backgrounds, they create socially engaged installations that blend themes of family and food and play into accessible yet conceptually complex narratives.
